Zegna ransomware attack confirmed

Italian luxury fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna has disclosed in a filing before the Securities and Exchange Commission that it had been hit by a ransomware attack last August, which impacted most of its IT systems, BleepingComputer reports. "In August 2021, we were subject to a ransomware attack that impacted the majority of our IT systems. As we refused to engage in discussions relating to the payment of the ransom, the responsible parties published certain accounting materials extracted from our IT systems. We publicly announced the IT systems breach and gradually restored our IT systems from secure backup servers during the weeks following the breach," said Zegna in its SEC filing. Responsibility for the attack on Zegna has been claimed by the RansomEXX operation, which leaked the stolen data on the same day Zegna announced the intrusion. RansomEXX has claimed to exfiltrate 20.74GB from Zegna, which has already been viewed nearly 500,000 times on its leak portal. While the authenticity of data exposed by RansomEXX was confirmed by Zegna in the SEC filing, the company did not detail the leak's effect on partners and clients.
