Clark County in Ohio suffered a malware attack that caused its servers to shut down on May 13, affecting record searches and requests and online utility payments, reports Springfield News-Sun.
Due to security concerns, a list of the directly affected servers and services was not disclosed to the public, said Mike Cooper, the county’s public information officer.
While no information on the full restoration of the county’s network was announced, Cooper said Clark County’s email server came back online Monday. He also added that the Clark County Community and Economic Development Department’s “online capabilities are significantly reduced. This may result in significant reduction in processing time. The department is also encouraging customers to pay in-person with cash or check.”
County officials, third-party cybersecurity consultants and local law enforcement members are working together to determine the source and scale of the malware attack, and there is no evidence that public information has been compromised, Cooper said.
