DDoS attack knocks Danish Parliament website offline

The Danish Parliament website folketinget.dk was taken offline Friday morning in a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, parliamentary press spokesman Finn Tørngren Sorensen confirmed.

Sorenson told the Danish news website Avinsen.dk that starting at 10 a.m. local time the government site was hit by the DDoS attack and the site has remained down since.

The Danish government did not know who or what group might be behind the attacks nor when the site would be functioning.

This incident is the latest in a series of cyberattacks that have struck government sites around the world. The U.S. government suffered several attacks this year including the hacking of the Office of Personnel Management which resulted in 21.5 million federal worker records being compromised and a separate attack on the Army National Guard. The German and the U.K. parliaments were also victimized.
