Greater US action against ‘cyber-enabled economic warfare’ urged

The U.S. has been urged by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies to strengthen efforts against cyber-enabled economic warfare techniques being employed by Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Aside from bolstering coordination on such threats with the intelligence community, the U.S. should also enhance its partnership with the private sector to combat such tactics, establish economic contingency plans, improve campaign disruption capabilities, and increase economic statecraft utilization, according to the report. "If these actors are going to come after us, the strongest country in the world, most likely they're going to perfect their cyber-enabled economic warfare tools against their near adversaries. If you look at it as campaign plans from each of these actors, see what they're doing against their other adversaries, we probably have a better insight into when they would use these tactics and how they would use these tactics," said FDD Center on Cyber and Technology Innovation Chair Samantha Ravich.
