More aggressive Chinese reconnaissance efforts observed

U.S. tech organizations have been facing more intensive reconnaissance efforts from Chinese advanced persistent threat groups since the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. More IT infrastructure scans are being conducted by Chinese hackers, who have been seeking to examine the response of U.S. against Russia's invasion of Ukraine, said Elvis Chan, an assistant special agent in charge at the FBI's San Francisco field office, at the RSA Conference. "They're still looking to steal as much intellectual property as they can," added Chan, who also noted that proprietary U.S. tech information is being targeted by Chinese threat actors. China, North Korea, and Iran have also continued state-sponsored cyberattacks amid the conflict. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, National Security Agency, and the FBI have recently issued an alert involving Chinese cyberattacks targeted at major telecommunications and internet service providers.
