New Iranian cyberattack launched against Albania, officials say

Albanian officials disclosed that Iranian state-sponsored threat actors have attacked a government system leveraged for border crossing monitoring just days after the country ended diplomatic ties with Iran following a July cyberattack and after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Irans Ministry of Intelligence and its minister of intelligence for the attacks, CyberScoop reports. "Another cyberattack by the same aggressors, already exposed and condemned by Albanias friendly and allied countries, was recorded last night on the TIMS system! Meanwhile, we continue to work around the clock with our allies to make our digital systems impenetrable," said Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in a translated tweet. Such an attack involved targeting of the data transmission and storage systems of the Total Information Management System, which was adopted by Albania in 2007 with the help of the U.S., according to a statement from the Albanian Ministry of the Interior. Meanwhile, U.S. sanctions and Albania's decision were condemned by Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani.
