Foxit updgrade contains malware protection feature

Foxit Software has released a new version (3.3) of its alternative PDF reader to contain a feature that prevents users from launching malicious executables buried in PDF files. The functionality, known as Secure Trust Manager, "enables users to allow or deny unauthorized actions and data transmission, including URL connection, attachments PDF actions, and JavaScript functions; efficiently avoiding the attack from malicious contents and viruses." The addition arrives after Adobe last month acknowledged that a design flaw in the "/Launch" function of Adobe Reader could be exploited by an attacker to launch scripts or .exe files embedded in PDF files. — DK
