SC World Congress: Innovative thinking

SC World Congress 2009 gathers a first-class speaker roster, Security Innovators Throwdown and a vendor showcase.

It should come as no surprise that most data is created electronically these days, with the average end-user typically hitting the print button only if absolutely necessary. So, ensuring that an organization knows how its information in all its digital formats is getting used, stored and exchanged is critical.

Bearing in mind that computer forensics planning is a critical part of any risk management plan, SC World Congress 2009 will include as one of its main sessions a mock trial to help you understand just how electronic evidence must be presented in a court of law. With the help of leading IT security experts from the FBI and United States Department of Justice, the session, "Your day in court: Turning legal-ize and security-ize into jury-ize," will arm delegates with the facts you need.

Still other exciting sessions are on tap for the second annual SC World Congress in October, as well as an all-around first-class speaker roster and our new Security Innovators Throwdown, a competition designed to ferret out the industry's newest, innovative companies (see June issue, pg. 32).

One educational session on tap will tackle the use of social networking applications by corporate employees. Stacey Halota, vice president, information security and privacy at the Washington Post Co., will explore some of the more current Web 2.0 issues and provide insight during the session "Social media and your network."

You'll also hear from Richard Stiennon, chief research analyst at IT-Harvest, reporting on his recent in-country research efforts on the cyberwar in Estonia. During his session, "Tales from the front," he'll highlight some facts about the goings-on there and dispel a number of myths that have cropped up as a result of politically motivated cyberattacks. Regardless of your industry, this discussion will help you to understand just why you need to be concerned about cyberwar activities, overarching critical infrastructure and the continuity of operations.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. You can learn more about the many activities, sessions and innovative happenings scheduled for SC World Congress in New York City from Oct. 13 to 14 by heading to www.scworldcongress.com
