»CloudLock, a Waltham, Mass.-based cloud data security firm, has secured $8.7 million in Series B funding from Ascent Venture Partners and Cedar Fund. The cash injection will be used to expand the company's engineering divisions, develop new platforms and pump up sales efforts. CloudLock CEO Gil Zimmermann (left) said the funding also will help the company attract talent. Luke Burns, partner with Ascent, is leading the investment and will join CloudLock's board.

»Bellevue, Wash.-based software company Atigeo has partnered with Nokia Siemens Networks, a global telecommunications services company, to supply its xPatterns product. The technology enables users to leverage end-customer data while protecting consumer privacy.

»Blue Coat Systems, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of web security and WAN optimization solutions, has appointed David Murphy president and chief operating officer, reporting directly to CEO Greg Clark. Murphy, who has 25 years of security, infrastructure and networking experience, will lead the sales and marketing organizations and execute the company's go-to-market and channel strategies. He was formerly SVP at HP and president and general manager of IBM Tivoli.

»Avira, a Tettnang, Germany-based global supplier of security solutions has acquired San Bruno, Calif.-based SocialShield, a service that enables parents to monitor their children's activity on social networks. Avira will integrate SocialShield's social network monitoring technology into its portfolio.

»OpenDNS, a leading provider of internet security and DNS services, has appointed Dan Hubbard (left) as CTO. Hubbard is tasked with developing products and strategies that enable enterprises to better anticipate internet threats and more intelligently protect against them, across all internet-connected devices. Hubbard has more than 20 years of experience in the security space. He was previously CTO at Websense.

»Industrial Defender, a Foxborough, Mass.-based global provider of security, compliance and change management solutions for automation systems, and Good Harbor Consulting, an Arlington, Va.-based provider of global strategic cyber risk management services, have teamed up to assist critical infrastructure operators improve their cyber security posture. Industrial Defender's solutions monitor, manage and protect critical infrastructure. Richard Clarke (right), chairman and CEO of Good Harbor, and formerly special adviser on cyber security to President George W. Bush, said the collaboration will enable executives to manage dynamic cyber risks and protect critical systems.

»F5 Networks, a Seattle-based application delivery networking vendor, has announced VAULT, a program for its worldwide channel partners focused on the company's security solutionws. Partners in the VAULT program will receive targeted incentives, rewards and technical training resources to support the sale of F5 security solutions.

»SafeNet, a Belcamp, Md.-based provider of eTokens, software rights management and cryptography for data protection, has bought U.K.-based cloud-based authentication vendor Cryptocard for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will expand SafeNet's portfolio with authentication-as-a-service offerings. Cryptocard's platform enables mobile and telecom service providers, as well as IT system integrators and service providers, to introduce authentication solutions to end-users

»CodeGuard, an Atlanta-based provider of malware detection and repair services to small and midsized businesses, has raised $500,000 in seed funding led by Imlay Investments. The company is a member of the Advanced Technology Development Center, which helps technology innovators in Georgia with incubation and acceleration services. Sig Mosley, president of Imlay Investments, is among the investors.

»Shawn Henry, a noted security expert at the FBI who has long warned against the dangers of cyber threats, is reportedly leaving his post after more than two decades. He has served in a wide range of operational and leadership positions, including heading the Washington Field Office (WFO), and collecting intelligence in the Baltimore and Philadelphia field offices. He was also on the SWAT Team at WFO.
