DVLA sacks fourteen over porn emails

Fourteen people have been sacked from the U.K.'s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Swansea after sending pornographic email attachments to each other and people outside the agency. Another 101 staff face disciplinary procedures.

The sackings came after a three-month investigation at the centre, which handles the U.K.'s driver and vehicle records. Among those fired was a senior manager. The fourteen members of staff who were dismissed were said to have been the worst offenders.

"The ones who have been sacked had the most disturbing images," a DVLA spokeswoman said in a statement. "The staff concerned were found to have used the agency's electronic systems to send pornographic email attachments out of the agency, in direct contravention of DVLA's code of conduct.”

The spokeswoman denied media reports that vast quantities of pornographic material had managed to crash the agency's email servers.

News of pornographic emails was first leaked by worker at the agency. "It is everywhere. It is hardcore stuff and very offensive," an anonymous staff member told the Evening Post. Boredom and the tedious nature of work was also said to be a factor in the scandal.
