Payment cards used on Wireless Emporium website compromised by malware

After malware was discovered on the www.wirelessemporium.com computer server, the company began notifying an undisclosed number of individuals that their personal information – including payment card data – might have been compromised.

How many victims? Undisclosed. Wireless Emporium did not respond to a SCMagazine.com request for the information. 

What type of personal information? Names, addresses, payment card account numbers, card expiration dates, and security codes.

What happened? Malware was installed on the Wireless Emporium website computer server and the data might have been compromised.

What was the response? Steps were taken to contain the incident and to prevent a similar incident from occurring again, including installing a new firewall and updating the code used to run the website. All impacted individuals are being notified.

Details: The incident was discovered on July 1. The malware could have compromised the information for customers who made purchases between Dec. 24, 2013, and Jan. 19.
