Glass not a privacy threat, Google tells Canada’s privacy commissioners

While maintaining that his company's Glass product is still in its developmental stage, Google's global privacy counsel, Peter Fleischer, has assured four of Canada's privacy commissioners that the concerns they and others expressed in a June 18th letter are unfounded.

Stating that, “it is still early days for [Glass],” Fleischer wrote that Google's so-called Explorer field trials would ensure all privacy considerations are addressed. “Protecting the security and privacy of our users is one of our top priorities,” he wrote.

Fleischer's letter was a response to one to Google CEO Larry Page from Canadian privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart and 35 of her cohorts in Canada and other countries. The government officials noted that Google had not discussed the privacy implications of Glass with any of them, and requested “real dialogue” before the product moved into full production.
