A hacker defaced the website of the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska, replacing arrival and departure times with a Turkish flag.
The prolific hacker, a seemingly politically motivated defacer known as iSKORPiTX, managed to disable the site for most of Monday.Officials at the airport said the hacker did not access any important information and only had access to the web server.
The Airport website displayed the waving Turkish flag from Sunday afternoon until it was removed in the evening, the website then underwent repairs until Monday morning.
The hacker has continued defacing sites, hitting another 15 since Monday, including sites in Canada, Georgia and an Alaskan educational site.
In other political internet news, Japanese media reports are suggesting the Japanese Defense Agency has been hit with a flood of data causing users problems accessing the internet. The source of the data appears to be an appeal on some Chinese forums urging users to flood Japanese servers. Channelnewsasia reported that investigations are underway to establish if the attack was caused by continuing ill-feeling between the Chinese and Japanese.
At the weekend over 6,000 Chinese took to the streets of Beijing in anger over a new series of Japanese textbooks that ignore Japan's brutal war record. The rally, involving the burning of Japanese flags, resulted in clashes with police.
