Cisco to acquire Twingo

Cisco Systems plans to acquire Twingo Systems, a developer of desktop security products for SSL VPNs.

Privately-held Twingo, based in Mountain View, Calif., produces software which allows VPN administrators to enforce security policies on systems connecting to VPNs, including variations in browser security, erasing temporary files left behind at the end of a session, cleaning up cookies and erasing downloaded data.

The acquisition, estimated at around $5m, is part of Cisco's evolving "self defending network" strategy. The company has increased its security-related acquisitions in recent years, with the $154m purchase of Okena last year.

"Solving endpoint security issues and improving consistency of features and functionality regardless of location or end-system administrative permissions is key to the overall success of SSL VPN as a remote access technology," said Richard Palmer, vice president and general manager, Cisco VPN and Security Business Unit.

Cisco will incorporate Twingo's Virtual Secure product into Cisco's existing WebVPN products.
