Former cyberintelligence chief named NetWitness CEO

The nation's former head of cyberintelligence has been named CEO of NetWitness, a network content analysis provider.

Amit Yoran resigned as director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Cyber Security Division more than two years ago. Since then, he has served as CEO and advisor to In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm. He was also co-founder and CEO of Riptech, a firm acquired by Symantec in 2002.

The cyberczar position, which replaced the director of the Cyber Security Division, was vacant from Yoran's resignation until Greg Garcia was appointed in September.

Nick Lantuh, NetWitness president, praised Yoran's track record.

"We are very excited to bring a world-class executive such as Amit into the company," he said. "Amit's vast experience with security, from start-ups to the DHS, provides an excellent backdrop for understanding how the security market will develop in the future."

Yoran, in a news release, said he believed the move would be mutually beneficial.

"I look forward to the prospects which lay ahead for NetWitness and for its applications within the commercial enterprise and government security infrastructures," he said. "The NetWitness product development spans nearly a decade of work with U.S. intelligence, federal law enforcement and Department of Defense customers."
