GOP Contractor Exposes 198 Million Voter Records

By Marcos Colon

Data on close to 200 million potential voters was exposed thanks to a “misconfigured database” belonging to a data analytics contractor employed by the Republic National Committee (RNC).

Security firm UpGuard confirmed the breach, sharing that the 1.1 terabytes worth of personal information was stored “in a publicly accessible cloud server owned by Republican data firm Deep Root Analytics.” The information includes names, dates of birth, home addresses, phone numbers, and voter registration details.

“Deep Root Analytics has become aware that a number of files within our online storage system were accessed without our knowledge,” the company said in a statement. “We take full responsibility for this situation.”
