Hasta la Vista Monad viruses

Windows Vista will not be affected by the swathe of viruses created for it, claims Microsoft.

Viruses aimed at the Monad command-line shell will be rendered useless because Microsoft has no plans to include it in the final version of Vista.

"Monad will not be included in the final version of Windows Vista," said Stephen Toulouse, a security group program manager at Microsoft. "So these potential viruses do not affect Windows Vista."

Monad is actually being developed for Longhorn Server, due in 2007, which will be a server operating system.

Tomorrow Microsoft will release six security patches as part of its monthly patch cycle.

Earlier this year SC reported Microsoft planned to boost its security portfolio by acquiring secure messaging company Frontbridge.
