Health contractor exposes docs’ Social Security numbers

The sensitive information of 103,000 doctors was errantly posted on a website belonging to California-based Health Net Federal Services, for roughly two months.

What type of personal information? Social Security numbers.

What was the response? The affected company, a contractor that provides benefits services for veterans and military families, has pledged to provide one year of free credit monitoring.

Details: The data was discovered through an advanced Google search. None of the information is believed to have been used fradulently. Doctors from 11 states are affected. The contractor blamed the incident on human mistake and software error.
