Insider accesses personal data on Lasell College network

An employee accessed the sensitive data of some 20,000 people on the computer network at Lasell College in Newton, Mass.

What type of personal information? Names and Social Security numbers of current and former students, faculty, staff and alumni.

What happened? The college discovered the breach on Feb. 6 and began an investigation. The hacker is believed to be an employee in the college's Department of Information Technology.

What was the resposne? The school notified law enforcement and attorneys general in the states where the victims reside. 

Details: School officials said none of the data has been used improperly.
