IT managers: security too tough for us

More than two thirds (68 per cent) of UK IT managers say that managing security is a complex and time-consuming task.

According to research from Network Box, more than 70 per cent of IT managers said their workload is more demanding compared to last year, and they blame the greater emphasis on security.

"Managing security is clearly challenging," said Simon Heron, technical director at Network Box. "Companies need to have a security policy that is easy to understand, accessible and simple to modify."

Almost 10 per cent of IT managers admitted their organisation had no anti-virus protection. More than a third of respondents said they would be prepared to outsource their internet security (40 per cent) and IT maintenance (34 per cent) to lessen the workload.

Nearly half of the 47 respondents said their companies had no content filtering in place (45 per cent) and over a third claimed to not having any intrusion detection prevention (38 per cent).

The survey found that 87 per cent of IT managers put security as a top priority for their business. Fifty-three per cent said managing spam was important.
