Marine Corps bug bounty program finds 150 vulnerabilities

The U.S. Marine Corps usually does not take kindly to any type of attack, but it has made an exception with its Hack the Marine Corps program, which has uncovered 150 vulnerabilities and paid out more than $150,000 in awards so far.

Marines and hackers join forces at Def Con 26.

The bug bounty program was launched, in conjunction with HackerOne, on August 12 at Def Con 26 during a live hacking event that by itself discovered 75 unique and valid vulnerabilities with the Corps paying more than $80,000. The white hat hackers tested the public-facing Marine Corps websites and services.

“Hack the Marine Corps was an incredibly valuable experience. When you bring together this level of talent from the ethical hacker community and our Marines we can accomplish a great deal,” said Major General Matthew Glavy, Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command.

Hack the Marine Corps is part of the wider Hack the Pentagon program. All of the branches of the military operate similar programs.
