nCipher has launched an appliance that allows an enterprise to digitally sign and time stamp PDF files from desktops equipped with Adobe Acrobat 6.0.
Called pdfProof, the network-based device sits on the corporate network as a shared resource and is accessible through a pdfProof plug-in by any networked Acrobat user in a company, said Richard Moulds, nCipher vice president of marketing.
The software establishes authenticity of a PDF document so a recipient is assured of its origin and that it has not been modified.
Moulds said pdfProof provides companies - many of which must comply with auditing requirements for electronic documents - a cost-effective alternative to installing a PKI.
