Unpatched Windows 10 machines may still be vulnerable to the EternalBlue remote kernel exploit used in the WannaCry attacks, according to researchers.
Although experts at Kaspersky Lab recently discovered that 98% of machines infected by the ransomware worm were running a version of Windows 7, researchers at RiskSense have found that it could also affect machines running Windows 10, according to a Dark Reading report.
After analyzing the core components of EternalBlue – which do not include the DoublePulsar payload leveraged in other exploits released by the group – RiskSense researchers found that the stripped down version of the exploit can be ported into unpatched versions of Windows 10, according to Dark Reading.
The infamous ransomware recently wreaked havoc across the globe, impacting more than 200,000 organizations and causing an estimated $1 billion in damages.
