Windows XP Service Pack 2 is available

The long awaited Service Pack 2 for Windows XP was released to PC manufacturers late last Friday but business users will have to wait until the end of the month to get their hands on the update.

Microsoft will make the update available as an update of via CD but the company is recommending that customers get it via the automatic update feature in Windows XP. MSDN subscribers can also download copies immediately.

By the 25th of this month the new service pack will be available as a critical update for consumers.

While the majority of code is aimed at patching numerous security flaws, there are a number of new features such as the security centre and improved personal firewall. Microsoft has acknowledged that the update may cause difficulties with some software, and recommends thorough testing before deployment.
