Fortnite login credentials sold on the dark web for cheap

Researchers at Top10 VPN have uncovered a thriving marketplace for selling U.K. gamer logins and passwords on the popular Battle Royal-esque game “Fortnite” on the dark web.

While traditional games have a pay one-off fee to access the content, Fortnite is free to access and recoups its costs by selling cosmetic items and passes that earn player's rewards.

The average price of the login credential was just £2.05 each, or $2.61, as of Aug 17, potentially granting buyers access to a large assortment of costly add-ons at the expense of the victim.

"As one of the biggest games in the world, Fortnite has attracted fraudsters looking to exploit its huge user base.” Top10VPN's head of research, Simon Migliano, said. "The temptation for criminals is both the breadth of Fortnite's users - many of whom are children or teenagers - but also the way the game makes its money.”

Migliano added that the temptation for users is both the breadth of Fortnite's user base and the way that the game makes money.
