Election Hacks By Russia Will “Be Back in 2020” Says FBI Director

By Marcos Colon

During a congressional hearing on Russia’s suspected election hacking efforts during the 2016 presidential election, the FBI and National Security Agency warned that more hacking attempts are expected in future elections.

“They’ll be back,” FBI Director James Comey said during the hearing. “They’ll be back in 2020. They may be back in 2018.”

The hearing surrounded last year’s hacking efforts performed by the Russian government that provided a helpful boost in President Donald Trump’s election win. In December, the United States government announced its retaliatory measures tied to the incident, imposing sanctions on nine Russian entities and individuals, as well as ejecting 35 Russian diplomats from the U.S. During the hearing, NSA Director Michael Rogers agreed with Comey. “I fully expect them to continue this level of activity,” he said.
