Fornite will start awarding players who enable two-factor authentication (2FA) with a free Boogiedown emote in Fortnite Battle Royale.
The team announced the security motivation on Aug. 23 blog post and is encouraging users to log into their Epic Games account to get started while emphasizing that clear that the Fortnite team will never ask users for the account passwords.
Team members recommend that Fortnite users who do receive requests for from someone posing as posing as a Fortnite employee, alert the real Fortnite team using the “Contact Us” feature.
“Once you've opted into Two-Factor Authentication, you will be asked to enter the code from your preferred two-factor authentication method, then you will be signed into your account,” the post said. “You will be prompted for the two-factor passcode the first time you sign in after enabling the feature, if you use a new device, if it's been over 30 days since you last signed in or if you've cleared your browser cookies recently.”
Fortnite isn't the first company to offer incentives for security as video game developer ArenaNet awarded players of Guild Wars 2 who enabled SMS-based login codes with the Mini Mystical Dragon as a free pet for enabling an SMS based form of 2FA.
