There are plenty of talks to look forward to at the RSA Conference this year in San Francisco. Larry Whiteside, chief security officer, Lynx Technology Partners Inc., shares what he thinks will be some standout topics.

What events will you be attending this year in San Francisco?

RSA and a lot of side events. Too many to name. Primarily events hosted by T.E.N. and SC Magazine because I feel both of these organizations do a kit for the community so I will attend any event they hold. I will also be attending many of the vendor functions. It is always interesting to see what kind of show these technical companies will try to put on.

What influenced your decision?

RSA is a must-attend show because most of the security technology companies use it as a showcase for their latest and greatest capabilities.

What do you anticipate the most as far as conference talks this year?

The talks will be interesting because at this ‎point I don't know who is and is not speaking based on all of the boycotters. I am just looking for something different and new that I have not heard or seen before. A new way to attack a current problem.

Given the RSA/NSA news, what kind of impact do you feel this will have on the show this year?

I think it will have some impact, though not major. From what I have heard from friends, it's mostly foreign nationals that have chosen to boycott. Most of my tier-1 security friends are still attending as either speakers, tech guys, or t‎ech customers.

What are some pressing concerns/threats in the industry that you feel will be discussed this year?

I know APTs will be on the map. I am hoping to hear about new ways to address mobility. There should also be some good talks about the integration of threat intelligence into your decision matrix. ‎Additionally I hope to hear something good about the forgotten art of PKI and key management. Encryption has and will continue to grow as threats increase. That being the case, key management and PKI will become paramount. Lastly, I want to hear about securing of virtual space/cloud infrastructures. This too is growing exponentially and has to be secured in new ways. I'm also expecting to see new ways to use Big Data analytics capabilities to identify and mitigate threats.
