- Cisco Systems is to acquire security appliance vendor IronPort Systems in an $830 million (£421 million) cash and stock deal. IronPort builds e-mail, web, and security management appliances, which Cisco, led by CEO John Chambers, plans to use as part of its Self-Defending Network framework, according to the company. The deal is expected to close in April.

US-based IronPort was founded in 2000 and has 408 employees. The companybought e-mail encryption firm PostX last year, and also announced apartnership deal with anti-spyware firm Webroot.

- Cyber-Ark Software has announced a slew of partnerships.The companyhas signed up managed security service provider Vistorm, Evolution,Bulwark Systems, SurFin Security, Omegapoint, Nexus and ISC. Cyber-Arksays its customer base has doubled and revenues have increasedthree-fold over the past six months. Clients include BT, OrangeAstraZeneca and Motorola.

- Websense has closed the acquisition of PortAuthority Technologies, ainformation-leak prevention software provider. Originally announced inDecember, this heralds a strategic move away from classic filteringtechnologies for Websense. The company says that the PortAuthority teamand product portfolio are now integrated into Websense's sales,marketing and product development organisations.

- Government security-contractor LogicaCMG has entered into apartnership with SecureWave SA, a provider of endpoint securitysolutions. The deal will allow LogicaCMG to offer SecureWave's Sanctuary4.0 software, a whitelist application and device control, to governmentorganisations. LogicaCMG is responsible for the security accreditationof the Defence Information Infrastructure (Future), the largest Ministryof Defence programme of its kind.
