Search warrants in Russian hackers case reveal interaction between Stone, WikiLeaks

Search warrants executed in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russian hackers have unearthed interactions between recently indicted Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone and WikiLeaks, which leaked emails stolen from the DemocraticNational Committee (DNC) and other Democratic-related organizations and operatives, according to a Friday court filing.

Mueller told the court that Stone’s case is related to the case against 12 Russian GRU hackers indicted last July for pilfering the emails.

“The government obtained and executed dozens of search warrants on various accounts used to facilitate the transfer of stolen documents for release, as well as to discuss the timing and promotion of their release,” the court documents said, with many of the warrants “executed on accounts that contained Stone’s communications with Guccifer 2.0 [a persona fronting theRussian hackers] and with Organization 1,” widely identified as WikiLeaks.

Stone, a longtime, close colleague of President Trump, was indicted in January on seven counts, including making false statements about his interactions with WikiLeaks regarding its release of the emails during the 2016presidential campaign.

The indictments, which include charges of obstruction and witness tampering, stated Stone “spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 [WikiLeaks] and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton campaign.”
