Yeliseyev gets six years for selling 62,000 stolen credit cards

Ukrainian national Ruslan Yeliseyev, 42, was sentenced to 72 months in prison for trafficking stolen financial information obtained through computer hacking, resulting in losses of about $31 million to his victims.

The Department of Justice stated in court documents that Yeliseyev sold more than 62,000 stolen credit card numbers along with usernames and passwords to victims' online banking accounts. He, along with several unnamed co-conspirators, obtained the payment card data by hacking about 40,000 computers.

This illegal operation began in February 2008 and ran through June 2014, according to court documents. During this period Yeliseyev belonged to what the court described as several “elite" Russian-speaking cybercrime forums where he was able to find associates to help with his illegal activities. In these forums Yeliseyev would boast of having in his possession and was looking to sell tens of thousands of stolen credit card numbers, court documents said.

Yeliseyev was arrested while vacationing in Israel in 2016 and then extradited to the United States.
