Active Folders Content Manager

Each enterprise will look long and hard at how they implement their corporate security policy. While many administrators look to implement an enterprise-wide solution, some may look to deliver specific policy management features for areas that their particular enterprise rates as high risk.

This means that in order to deliver policy management across all electronic communication a specific policy solution will be required that specializes in this particular function.

One such solution is Active Folders Content Manager. This particular software product protects the enterprise from many legal pitfalls associated with employees mismanaging their email accounts or delivering inappropriate content through the medium of email.

Mailboxes and sub-folders can be scanned using a set of rules. Attachments are also subject to a set of rules that stipulates names, size and extensions. This scanning also enables the tracking of mail where the content of an email or attachment has been deemed unnecessary or offensive.

For installation purposes Active Folders Content Manager can be run on an NT server or a Windows 2000 server that doubles up as your Exchange Server. But, for the larger corporate installation, a dedicated server is recommended. You will also need Exchange 5.5 or 2000.

The installation itself went smoothly enough and you just need to give yourself administration rights to get things rolling.

The policies stop unwanted content, and also limit the chances of malicious content in the form of email attachments, from spreading by adding new rules to identify suspicious email. This can also be a welcome addition to your anti-virus protection.

The solution can also help to manage stored content; space is not wasted storing unsuitable, old or unwanted data as the administrator can locate and remove items from single or multiple information stores, mailboxes, folders or sub-folders. How you control this aspect will depend on your preferences.

As a dedicated email policy management tool, Active Folders Content Manager works well, providing a way to control both content and data, which may otherwise lead to embarrassing or serious legal issues arising.
