Gordano Messaging Suite is a complete mail server, with integrated anti-virus, anti-spam, and content filtering. As a mail server, it offers a cost-effective alternative to Microsoft Exchange and integrates tightly with Outlook in the same way that Exchange does. There are many additional features, such as support for dial-up collection of email from your ISP by POP3. It also has Extended Turn (ETRN) support for dial-up to extend SMTP should you need to use it. Client machines can be supported via POP3, IMAP, or a webmail interface.
Anti-virus is offered for all email messages by a fully integrated OEM version of Command Software's Virus scanner product, which has an updating service.
Anti-spam is provided with a heuristic approach based on Bayesian filters that rates received messages with a probability of being spam; a public realtime blackhole list (RBL); and an optional confirmation process which asks senders absent from your address book to respond to an automated request confirming their intention to send an email. When they respond, their original email is delivered and they are added to a whitelist so that they do not need to repeat the process.
The anti-spam system also provides customizable content filtering by enabling the administrator to compile a list of phrases that might not be permitted in outbound email messages. The company can provide an updated list of restricted words. There is no facility to block messages with "inappropriate" language by category, but phrase lists can be created on a global or individual domain basis by the administrator to implement this. Individuals can activate personal filters including, but not limited to, restricted words. Attachments may be blocked by file extension or file type.
Security features include anti-hijacking, authentication of users, and the transparent SSL encryption of all messages. Load monitoring against spam overloads defeats denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. Gordano Messaging Suite runs on Windows NT/2000/XP and UNIX (including Sun Solaris and Linux).
