This is an anti-virus offering for Microsoft Exchange that comes with an optional integrated spam filtering module.
You can either install the software on a local or remote Exchange server, or install the client alone, which can be used to centrally manage the Antigen service running on remote Exchange Servers.
The central management module breaks away from the typical menu tree and adds a number of graphical elements, which actually opens up the control system and makes it pleasingly intuitive and accessible. And the installation of an ActiveX client provides another method of administration for Antigen servers via a web browser.
The job scheduler acts as a database that schedules software installations, updates, alerts and reports, which can be delivered in HTML format in this edition.
Job configuration is a breeze, and you can run the same jobs on any number of servers, with batch deployments of jobs a useful element. But you cannot create a group of servers to run recurring jobs against automatically within the application, this has to be done via a batch file or the Windows task scheduler.
The quarantine manager is another database type module, which shows you infection listings against client information. The interface gives you the option to sort the entries and to retrieve specific data from a server.
Antigen allows you to use the anti-virus engine of six products, including its own and those of Norman, Sophos and Computer Associates. Multiple scan engines provide extra security. The product also supports compressed and Zip file scanning.
While Antigen, and its documentation, is formidable, particularly when incorporated with other anti-virus engines, it is specific to Microsoft Exchange. On the plus side, the entire Sybari suite covers Microsoft SharePoint and Lotus Domino, as well as Exchange. When combined with the integrated spam filter, which we did not test here, it has a unique edge.
