NGS has experience in this field and this is reflected in the no-nonsense approach to Typhon 3. Its user interface is functional rather than beautiful, but this is consistent with this type of product. It is a working tool, and work it does.
NGS claims speed is one of the virtues of Typhon 3 and it is fast, even when deliberately run on modest spec clients. A simple progress indicator and task count shows you exactly where you are in the overall process and a report may be quickly run following a scan. The reports may be saved as text files or exported to HTML and viewed immediately in a browser.
The HTML reports have clear unambiguous headings and a straightforward executive summary section has simple graphs to illustrate the findings. This will suit many busy systems and network administrators very well.
Underneath this simplicity of presentation is an in-depth choice of host and global options. These allow for practically any scanning configuration, which, having been set up, may be saved for recall.
From within the toolbar you may quickly launch the Microsoft Notepad application, a DOS prompt, or, if present, other NGS applications. This workman-like approach extends to the help file which is succinct but endowed with plenty of screen shots to show you exactly how it all fits together.
Typhon 3 also includes a web spider feature that can trawl its way through a website to uncover vulnerabilities. To use an automotive analogy, Typhon 3 reminds me a little of a Land Rover. Its simple, functional design hides a capability which many will come to bless when it gets them out of trouble on the slippery roads of modern IT.
