Eurofighter deploys file encryption

The European combat aircraft firm Eurofighter is deploying encryption and digital signatures for 2,000 network users.

Security company Entrust is providing software for the project's security infrastructure, which includes identity and access management solutions.

"Pilots cannot use smart cards, so this has to be compatible with biometrics," said Hans Ydema, European VP for Entrust. "The new systems have lead to a paperless environment where every document is encrypted and signed. In years to come people can see who has done what."

The UK's Royal Air Force and the German Air Force, both customers of Eurofighter, have adopted technology. In total, 120 thousand people are involved with theproject.

According to Ydema, Eurofighter has made around 460 jets.

Eurofighter GmbH is based in Based in Hallbergmoos.
