Firms join forces to promote safer critical infrastructure

A handful of companies have joined forces to promote the advancement of technologies designed to protect the nation's critical infrastructure.

Called the Strategic Infrastructure Protection Consortium, the coalition was formed by Abeo Corporation, CT Solutions, GCS Research, Knowledge Vector and Vidient Systems.

The group's first director is Michael Borcherding, Abeo president.

The partnership grew out of the companies working together on architected security solutions at regional airports in Helena, Mont., and Tallahassee, Fla., according to a news release from the organization.

Bocherding told SCMagazine.com today that the consortium was organized to ease the sale of new solutions and to serve as a sounding room for new ideas.

"Our first goal is to commercialize this solution and shrink wrap it, and we're working with the TSA (U.S. Transportation Security Administration and DHS (U.S. Department of Homeland Security) on how best to do that," he said. "We also want the consortium to be a think-tank of sorts."

Bill Adams of CT Solutions said in a news release that to secure critical infrastructure, "decades-old security paradigms must be overhauled."

"Sensor data must be integrated, and security operators must stop staring at banks of CCTV monitors and start predicting threats. Radio calls, text messages and geospatial data must be automatically coupled with live images beamed wirelessly to PDAs or laptops."
