In February 2016, Dallas resident Lennon Ray Brown admitted to damaging a protected Citibank computer in 2013 by transmitting a code and command that erased the running configurations of 10 core Citibank Global Control Center routers, according to a July 25 Justice Department press release.
Browns actions resulted in the loss of connectivity to approximately 90 percent of all Citibank networks across North America. At the sentencing, the government read a text Brown sent shortly after the attack explaining his motive.
“They was firing me. I just beat them to it," the text read. "Nothing personal, the upper management need to see what they guys on the floor is capable of doing when they keep getting mistreated.”
