With the nation's critical infrastructure, including power plants, refineries and manufacturing facilities at risk of cyber attack, General Electric has said it will buy Wurldtech, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based cyber security company specializing in safeguarding power plants and other industrial sites.
Through its Achilles security product line, Wurldtech protects operational technology while maximizing uptime and mitigating risk exposure. GE is banking on the acquisition to boost the reliability of Industrial internet operations. GE and Wurldtech have had a working relationship over the past four years.
"The world of OT [operations technology] security needs to be foundationally different from traditional IT detection systems,” Bill Ruh, vice president of GE Software, said in a statement.
GE and Wurldtech have had a working relationship over the past four years. The companies did not release any details on the purchase price.
