Gordano Messaging Suite
The system provides very effective centralized management and reporting facilities.
Individual networked machines will still need some form of local antivirus scanning software.
A flexible and very configurable messaging system with excellent antivirus scanning options.
Gordano's Messaging Suite is a complete messaging system with built-in email antivirus scanning facilities, rather than a specialized antivirus scanning system for individual machines.
While this will take care of the most common source of infection, it will do nothing to protect your network from viruses introduced by other means. However, it does provide a centralized administration and control point, which simplifies the management of this very important security asset.
It provides a comprehensive auditing and reporting system that can cope with large numbers of users and domains. Reports are provided at system and domain level, giving a detailed view of all activities, enabling system administrators to obtain an accurate situation report at any time.
The system also allows various actions to be taken when a possible virus is detected, and this can range from simply bouncing the message back to the sender with a warning, quarantining the message for further examination, or forwarding the message to the recipient after disinfecting it.
The system can also be configured to generate alerts to the postmaster, user or sender in any combination.
The scanning system can also be configured by domain or individual users, so that some trusted recipients can be excluded from the scanning process, while others might have specific scanning options set to override the system-wide settings.
As a messaging system, it needs to be able to authenticate users, and it uses several methods to do this. It can use Microsoft Windows NT's Security Accounts Manager, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol or Active Directory user authentication, or use security data stored in either a Microsoft SQL Server or in Gordano's own proprietary database.
The system is certainly an effective messaging system, especially if you are providing email services for external clients rather than for corporate use, and the antivirus software is effective. However, any networked systems would still need some form of localized antivirus software to protect them.
