Following one of the largest data breaches in U.S. government history, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Department of Defense (DoD) awarded Identity Theft Guard Solutions a $133,263,550 contract to assist with identity fraud monitoring.
The contractor, operating as ID Experts, will provide identity theft protection services for the 21.5 million individuals whose personal information was compromised, according to a press release. All impacted people will receive credit monitoring, identity monitoring, identity theft insurance and identity restoration services for three years.
The service will be free, and the U.S. government will begin notifying impacted individuals in the coming weeks.
“We remain fully committed to assisting the victims of these serious cybercrimes and to taking every step possible to prevent the theft of sensitive data in the future,” said Beth Cobert, Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management, in a press release.
