Cloud computing has been the hot topic in the information security industry for the better part of a year or longer. However, despite all the hype surrounding these offerings and the increasing number of organizations turning to cloud providers to host their applications or information assets, security issues still persist.
To help information security leaders understand just how disruptive cloud computing can be to their security operations and to better safeguard the data entrusted to these providers, SC World Congress 2010 will offer a participatory keynote that will engage attendees in a live case study with many of the industry's finest CISOs.
In this interactive exercise led by Col. Mike Convertino, commander of the 318 Informations Operations Group and leader of the U.S. Air Force's premier information warfare group, and orchestrated by Peter Stephenson, SC Magazine technology editor and CISO of Norwich University, the fictitious company "Hackbro" will watch its recently established private cloud get assaulted by a cybergang.
Composed of expert security gurus, the red team will hack its way into Hackbro's cloud, ultimately aiming to gain access to corporate systems. All the while, the opposing blue team will do its best to thwart the onslaught with the help of audience participation.
Stephenson, Convertino and their team of technologists will showcase all the action in real-time on a large screen, demonstrating how various network systems can go down in minutes. Meanwhile, the audience will be called into action to help stop the bad guys and get various systems back up and running despite continuous attacks from the red team.
"There's been much talk about international cybersecurity as it relates to attacks on the public and private sector and at SC World Congress we are going to address what the future threat landscape will look like – whether it be an individual criminal or a nation-state attempting to take down another country's infrastructure,” Convertino said. "SC World Congress promises to uncover the tactics and best practices to not only address these issues, but also share additional knowledge and expertise beneficial to anyone in the information security industry."
