Briefs: Company news: Appointments at Mandiant, McAfee, Solera and more

»Mandiant, provider of threat detection and response solutions, has named Michael Evans (left) VP of marketing. He previously served for six years as VP of marketing at Approva, which makes continuous controls monitoring software. In his new role, Evans will be in charge of all marketing aspects, including brand building and new product launches.

»McAfee has named Stuart McClure worldwide chief technology officer. His office will work with senior leaders on customer requirements, knowledge sharing, strategy development, research and patents. McClure previously was senior VP and general manager of McAfee's risk and compliance business unit. He replaces George Kurtz, who left to form his own company.

»RedSeal Networks, maker of security intelligence solutions based in Santa Clara, Calif., has secured an additional $10 million in venture capital, which will be used to further address infrastructure complexity and change challenges faced by organizations. RedSeal also provides customers with security performance metrics and security infrastructure impact analysis.

»Wave Systems, a hardware-based security firm, has partnered with Samsung to extend its engineering services, consulting, validation and software to the semiconductor's Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chips. Wave will provide Samsung's OEM customers with the ability to better secure the TPM.

»Solera Networks, a network security analytics vendor, has tapped Rick Simmons (left) as VP of North American sales. He will run the sales team and address customer and growth demands. Most recently, Simmons led area sales at whitelisting company Bit9.

»NetScout, provider of integrated network performance management solutions, has acquired Sterling, Va.-based Simena, a privately held maker of IP packet flow-based network monitoring switching technology. Its solutions allow organizations to manage network traffic for data, voice, video monitoring and security. The deal lets NetScout advance its visibility capabilities.

»Webroot has appointed Mel Morris as CTO. He will be tasked with driving strategy around the company's cloud-based security services and delivery platform. Morris joins as CTO roughly a year after Webroot acquired Prevx, the company he founded. Webroot's former CTO, Gerhard Eschelbeck, recently left to join Sophos as CTO.

»Veracode, provider of security testing products, has appointed Bob Brennan CEO. He recently served as CEO of information management company Iron Mountain. Interim CEO Maria Cirino will remain at Veracode as chairwoman.

»BITS, the technology policy division of The Financial Services Roundtable, has named John Carlson executive VP in charge of cybersecurity and fraud prevention initiatives. Carlson joins from Morgan Stanley, where served as managing director and concentrated on supplier risk management, new product approval, environmental risk and standardization of board-approved policies.
