Today’s networks are far-reaching and consist of many disparate configurations – from basic local area networks to cloud environments to mobile. Obviously, the need to know what’s going on is imperative. SIEM tools – which gather, analyze and present information to offer a holistic view of an organization’s information technology – have been around for about a decade. There have been a lot of changes in what constitutes a SIEM product, but the challenge for many has been what can be done with the logs and reports so as to be made aware of anomalies that may indicate threats. While the need to comply with PCI DSS has driven SIEM adoption, the rise of advanced persistent threats (APTs) has more recently also fueled growth of these systems. While cost and complexity has, in the past, hindered wide adoption and efficient implementation, administrators are becoming more acquainted with the possibilities these tools offer – and costs are coming down as well. This 20/20 Webcast from SC Magazine will examine today’s threat landscape and demonstrate how today’s SIEM can ensure all endpoints of an enterprise network are monitored effectively.
