  • Windows XP is scheduled for “End of Life” in April 2014 yet XP is still the 2nd most widely used PC operating system in the world—estimates suggest that nearly 35% of PCs are still running XP.
  • Many organizations cannot move from XP by April 2014 due to application compatibility, cost, staffing resources and other issues.
  • The most significant issues facing organizations with XP PCs is operating securely when there are no more security patches from Microsoft and retaining their regulatory certifications for PCI, HIPAA, GLB, SOX, etc.
  • There is now an alternative that allows organizations to move from XP on their own timeline, while staying secure and retaining their certifications: ExtendedXP from Arkoon.

This webinar will begin with Ritchie Jeune, the CEO of Evolution, Inc., discussing the security issues that organizations are facing when they are using XP after the Windows support ends including the anticipated threats of cyber criminals and best practices for lessening the risks.  Ritchie will address:

  • The strengths and weaknesses of options like using existing endpoint protections like AV and whitelisting
  • The challenges of retaining regulatory compliance such as PCI DSS and the requirements for adequate compensating controls

Bob Foley and Fayce Daira will provide an overview and technical description of ExtendedXP (EXP) that combines the active real-time protection of a customized Agent running at the Endpoint with the EXP Monitoring Service for monitoring and reporting on vulnerabilities to provide enhanced protection of XP and related applications.  The focus of this presentation will be:

  • The unique memory protection of EXP will be described and analyzed as the key component in the capability that EXP has to replace the Microsoft XP Patch Tuesday support.
  • Last, the implications for organizations using XP for maintaining regulatory certification (PCI, HIPAA, etc.) by using EXP as a compensating control will be discussed and examined.
