-Blue Coat Systems, provider of secure content and application delivery, has announced its senior technologist has co-written a reference book. "IPv6 Advanced Protocols Implementation," co-authored by Qing Li, examines protocols that are found in IPv6 architectures.

-The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) has deployed solutions from online brand protection firm, BrandProtect. The contract provides the FDIC, responsible for insuring bank deposits, with defense against scams such as phishing that might affect the integrity of the brand.

The Information Technology Association of America has named Cindy Jimenez vice president of government relations. She was formerly adviser to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Jimenez will educate lawmakers on public policies affecting the IT industry and the nation’s ability to compete.

-Cloudmark, a messaging security provider, has launched its Mobile Partner Program to provide wireless service providers with a messaging security platform to fight spam and malware. The decision to start the program centers on the increase in end-users who use mobile devices to access their email, combined with the rise in spam.

-MaxSecure Software is offering its enterprise anti-spyware solution free for six months to all U.S. school districts. The decision comes after a Connecticut substitute teacher was convicted on charges of exposing her middle-school students to pop-up pornography. But the now-former teacher contends she was the victim of spyware and adware.

-Identity management and authentication provider IdentiPHI has acquired SAFsolution and SAFmodule software from Saflink. IdentiPHI will take over customers and re-sellers of the two enterprise biometric products. SAFsolution integrates Windows Active Directory to improve ID management, while SAF module delivers biometric authentication to Novell eDirectory networks.

Grisoft, manufacturer of internet security software, has named J.R. Smith chief executive officer. CTO Karel Obluk, acting CEO for the past year, will focus on strategic and technical development. Smith formerly served as founder and CEO of Dot Mobile, a British virtual mobile operator.

-Verano, maker of supervisory control and data acquisition systems, has named Todd Nicholson chief marketing officer. He will head the company’s global marketing and product strategy, overseeing brand management, corporate communications, and marketing. Nicholson previously served as product manager of EMC’s grid and utility computing business unit.
