Alcohol aficionados who made purchases with home brewing and wine making company Midwest Supplies may have had their credit card details compromised in a website breach.
How many victims? Undisclosed, but Midwest Supplies is said to serve thousands of customers.
What type of personal information? Names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, credit card numbers, expiration dates and security codes.
What happened? The Midwest Supplies website was breached by an outside party who was able to view the personal information.
What was the response? Midwest Supplies sent letters to affected customers. An investigation was conducted and completed. The company has taken steps to prevent a similar incident from happening again and has offered affected customers a $25 coupon.
Details: The California data breach notification website lists the breach as having occurred on June 13 and being discovered on July 19. Letters mailed to affected customers are dated for this Saturday. The letters contain the dates the customers used their cards to make purchases on the Midwest Supplies website.
Quote: “As soon as we discovered the breach, we took immediate measures to resolve the situation and are satisfied that it is, in fact, resolved,” said David Kidd, the company’s president, in the letter. “We conducted a full investigation and have taken extensive steps to prevent it from happening again. You should carefully monitor your monthly credit card statements for unusual charges.”
