More than 1,000 UK HealthCare patients impacted by stolen laptop

A password protected laptop stolen from Talyst, a provider of pharmacy billing management services, has resulted in the compromise of personal information for more than 1,000 patients of University of Kentucky (UK) HealthCare.

How many victims? 1,079.

What type of personal information? Names, dates of birth, medical records numbers, diagnoses, medications, laboratory results, progress notes, allergies, heights and weights, dates of service, and physicians names and clinics. Names of insurances carriers and insurance identification numbers were included for some individuals.

What happened? A password protected laptop that contained the information on UK HealthCare patients was stolen from Talyst, a provider of pharmacy billing management services.

What was the response? UK HealthCare is notifying all impacted patients.  

Details: Talyst reported the laptop stolen on Feb. 4.
