Alleged Russian hacker Drinkman charged in U.S. court, pleads not guilty

A Russian man who allegedly played a significant role in one of the largest international hacking schemes in history has been extradited to the U.S. and charged in a federal court in New Jersey.

On Tuesday, 34-year-old Vladimir Drinkman of Syktyykar and Moscow, Russia was formally charged for his involvement in the hacking ring which stole 160 million credit and debit card numbers after the compromising the corporate networks of payment companies – notably 7-Eleven, JetBlue and Heartland Payment Systems – causing hundreds of millions of dollars in losses over a seven year span.

Drinkman entered a plea of not guilty to all 11 counts charged in his indictment, according to a release by the Justice Department.

Since his arrest in 2012 in the Netherlands, Drinkman had been fighting against his extradition.
