Sophos has formed a technology partnership with anti-spyware software vendor Webroot. The deal is being pitched as an attempt to provide a “heightened level of protection against some of the most serious internet security threats”. The new series of Webroot software will combine Sophos’s anti-virus technology with Webroot’s anti-spyware software, Spy Sweeper, to produce a single package. The, as yet unnamed, software is planned to go on sale by the end of this year.

– Onigma, a privately held data protection solutions provider, has beenbought by McAfee for $20 million (£10.7 million) cash. Themove provides McAfee with additional facilities and resources, which,according to Christopher Bolin, McAfee’s chief technology officer andexecutive vice-president, will ensure that their customers receive”robust protection” against risks, especially those associated with themisplacement of confidential information.

Its latest release, McAfee Data Loss Prevention, has been designed tofulfil these criteria. It is a host-based solution that incorporatesvarious features from Onigma’s content-based data loss prevention (DLP)product.

Meanwhile, McAfee has announced a new security risk management strategyto help enterprises minimise risks from security threats andnon-compliance.

This follows McAfee’s acquisition of Preventsys and SiteAdvisor, whichit says will allow it to integrate threat prevention with remediation,network access control and data loss prevention.

– Authentication technology developer CRYPTOCard has formed apartnership with network database security company Pyn Logic. The dealmeans that the two can offer a new package consisting of CRYPTOCard’stwo-factor authentication tokens combined with Pyn Logic’s Enzo securitysystem. The new partners claim the technology agreement will allowcustomers to implement a highly granular access control framework on allof their databases.
